Trials of Knighthood
The Brotherhood holds promotions to be important, for they are a sign of dedication and experience. The member, when promoted, has learned all that can be learned at the old rank and has advanced to a new level in understanding and use of the Force. The promotion to the level of Dark Jedi Knight is perhaps the most important promotion; in many regards, it is perhaps more important than even the attainment of Dark Jedi Master.
A Dark Jedi Knight has shown determination and great skill. He or she has learned the skills to build and wield a lightsaber. Basic Force skills have been honed to perfection and creative uses of the Force have been learned and developed by the time the member has attained the level of Dark Jedi Knight. Once a member becomes a Dark Jedi Knight, he or she may begin a new path to learn the deepest secrets of the Force.
In order to ensure that members are ready for the rank and responsibility of Dark Jedi Knight, any candidate within the halls of Tarentum shall undergo a series of trials in accordance with the most ancient of practices in the teaching of the Force. All candidates shall be required to complete three trials. The following process shall be followed within Clan Tarentum (both long and short forms are included):
Long Form
- The candidate's master, a member of the candidate's House Summit, or a member of the Clan Summit, may propose at any time that trials be planned for the candidate. A candidate's master must approve that his/her student is ready for the trials.
- There shall be one trial for each level: Master, House, and Clan. Each trial shall be different and should reflect the candidate's strengths. The particular trials shall be discussed and approved by the candidate's master, the House Summit, and the Clan Summit. Only one member of the House Summit and one member of the Clan Summit are required to run the trial for their level.
- Once the trials have been agreed upon, one member of the "committee" shall write a short fictional introduction to introduce the trials. It is preferred that the master do this, but anyone may do so. The end of the fictional introduction shall list the three trials and who is in charge of them.
- The candidate shall be charged to fulfill the duties listed in each trial. The candidate may choose the order he or she does the trials in, but all three must be successfully completed. Time is not a requirement.
- Upon successful completion, the candidate shall be recommended for his/her promotion. Upon approval of the promotion, an announcement shall be made to the clan, marking the ascendance of a new Dark Jedi Knight.
Short Form
- Master, House Summit, and Clan Summit get in touch and lay out the trials: who will run what, etc.
- Fictional introduction is written and then presented to the candidate.
- The candidate shall complete the trials at his/her own pace. All 3 must be passed successfully.
- Upon passing, the candidate shall be promoted.
Special Notes:
If a candidate does not have a master, then any one of the following members may fill the role:
- The other member of the Clan Summit
- The other member of the House Summit
- A member of another House Summit from within the same clan
- An experienced member from the clan
Describing the construction of one's lightsaber should be a standard trial and should be conducted on one of the three levels of the trials.
